Maksymovych, Ihnatii

Maksymovych, Ihnatii [Максимович, Ігнатій; Maksymovyč, Ihnatij], b 1730s, d 11 December 1793 in Chernihiv. Writer, educator, and churchman. From 1757 to 1764 he lectured at the Kyivan Mohyla Academy, from which he had graduated. From 1768 until his death he served as hegumen of various monasteries. His ‘Oda na pervyi den' maia 1761 goda’ (Ode on the First Day of May in the Year 1761) is the first syllabo-tonic verse in Ukrainian literature.
