Petrun, Fedir

Petrun, Fedir [Петрунь, Федір; Petrun'], b 1 March 1894 in Ustie, Kamianets-Podilskyi county, Podilia gubernia, d 1963 in Odesa. Historical geographer and bibliographer. In the 1920s he taught at the Odesa Institute of People's Education, headed a department at the Odesa Central Scientific Library, and was learned secretary of the Odesa branch of the All-Ukrainian Association of Oriental Studies. He is the author of articles in the serials published by the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences on the eastern boundary of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 1630s (1928), Kachybei on old maps (1928), a map of roads in Ukraine in the first half of the 19th century (1928), ancient roads in the Odesa region (1929), and the pre-Odesa period of Viktor Hryhorovych’s activity and its relation to Ukraine (1929). He was arrested during the Stalinist terror in 1929, but released in 1931. From 1941 he worked at Odesa University.
