Ruban, Valentyna

Ruban, Valentyna [Рубан, Валентина], b 30 June 1940 in Khlibodarivka, Donetsk oblast, d 5 December 2014 in Kyiv. Art historian. She received her doctorate from the Institute of Art History in Moscow (1990). She was a senior researcher at the Institute of Fine Arts, Folklore, and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in Kyiv and the author of several books and many articles on the development of Ukrainian portraiture, including Ukraïns'kyi radians'kyi portretnyi zhyvopys (Soviet Ukrainian Portrait Painting, 1977), Portret v tvorchosti ukraïns'kykh zhyvopystsiv (The Portrait in the Work of Ukrainian Painters, 1979), Ukraïns'kyi portretnyi zhyvopys pershoï polovyny XIX stolittia (Ukrainian Portraiture of the First Half of the 19th Century, 1984), Ukraïns’kyi portretnyi zhyvopys druhoï polovyny XIX pochatku XX–stolittia (Ukrainian Portraiture of the Second Half of the 19th Century and the Beginning of the 20th Century, 1986), and Anatol' Petryts’kyi: Portrety suchasnykiv (Anatol Petrytsky: Portraits of Contemporaries, 1991).
