Saint Kuksha

Saint Kuksha [Kukša], b ?, d 1113. A hieromonk at the Kyivan Cave Monastery. Possibly of Viatichian origin, he left Kyiv for (what is now) the Orel region of Russia in order to undertake pioneering missionary work among the Viatichians. He was martyred during the course of his proselytizing. Reputed to have created miracles, Saint Kuksha is remembered on 9 September (27 August OS). His relics are kept in the Near Caves of the Kyivan Cave Monastery.
