Shamrai, Hanna

Shamrai, Hanna [Шамрай, Ганна; Šamraj], b 4 April 1869 in Sestrynivka, Podilia gubernia, d 7 August 1943 in Kyiv. Historian and translator; mother of Serhii Shamrai and sister of Mykhailo Hrushevsky and Oleksander Hrushevsky. Until the early 1930s she was an associate of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and published in its collections and periodicals (1924–9) studies dealing with the urban history of Left-Bank Ukraine in the 17th and 18th centuries and articles on Avtonom Soltanovsky’s stories and on Panteleimon Kulish’s literary plans in the 1870s.
