Stempowski, Stanisław

Stempowski, Stanisław, b 27 January 1870 in Huta Cherlenovetska, eastern Podilia, d 11 January 1952 in Warsaw. Polish civic and political figure and writer. He developed an interest in Ukrainian affairs after meeting Bohdan Kistiakovsky and other Ukrainian students at Dorpat University (1891). He became active in Ukrainian co-operative movement and educational work in Volhynia (1906–16) and was leader of the Polish Democratic Center party when it entered the Central Rada (1917). In 1920 he was minister of health in the Viacheslav Prokopovych administration of the Ukrainian National Republic. His memoirs were published as Pamiętniki 1870–1914 (1953).
