Tretiakov, Dmytro

Tretiakov, Dmytro [Третьяков, Дмитро; Tret'iakov], b 5 November 1878 in Shumorovo, Mologa county, Yaroslavl gubernia, Russia, d 26 September 1950 in Kyiv. Zoologist and morphologist; full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR from 1929. A graduate of Saint Petersburg University (1900), he was a professor at Odesa University (1912–41) and founder and director of its Scientific Research Institute of Zoology (1930–41). He worked at the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in Ufa (1941–4) and was its director (1944–8), and taught at Kyiv University (1944–8). His research was in the fields of histology, comparative anatomy, and phylogeny.
