Ukrainian Republican Regiment

Ukrainian Republican Regiment (Pershyi ukrainskyi respublikanskyi polk). An infantry regiment organized in the fall of 1917 by Col Petro Bolbochan. It consisted of volunteers from the Fifth Corps of the Russian army. In January 1918 it suffered heavy casualties defending Kyiv from the invading Red Army. Its surviving units re-formed as the Second Battalion of the Separate Zaporozhian Detachment and later expanded into the Second Infantry Regiment of the Zaporozhian Corps.
