Urazovsky, Serhii

Urazovsky, Serhii [Уразовський, Сергій; Urazovs'kyj, Serhij], b 8 October 1903 in Rivenky, Tahanrih district, Oblast of the Don Cossack Host (now Luhansk oblast), d 13 January 1961 in Kharkiv. Physical chemist; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR from 1943. A graduate of Kharkiv University (1927), he taught at the Kharkiv Chemical Technology Institute (1930–50) and chaired departments at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1941–2), the Kharkiv Chemical Technology Institute (1942–50), the Kharkiv Polytechnical Institute (from 1950), and Kharkiv University. Specializing in the physical chemistry of surface phenomena, Urazovsky originated the theory of molecular polymorphism and wrote a monograph about it (1956).
