Vatra publishing house

Vatra publishing house (Ватра; Bonfire). A publishing house of the Plast Ukrainian Youth Association in Transcarpathia, founded in Uzhhorod by Leonid Bachynsky. In the years 1924–9 it issued 25 booklets, with a combined pressrun of 38,000 copies. Among them were several plays by Spyrydon Cherkasenko, Plast handbooks and songbooks by Bachynsky, and translations of stories by E.T. Seton and S. Lagerlöf. Vatra closed down after Bachynsky was expelled from Czechoslovakia.
