Yastrebov, Vladimir

Yastrebov, Vladimir [Ястребов, Владимир; Jastrebov], b 18 July 1855 in Krivaia Luka, Samara gubernia, Russia, d 2 January 1899 in Kherson. Ethnographer and archeologist. After graduating from the New Russia University in Odesa (1876) he taught history in Yelysavethrad, conducted archeological research in Kherson gubernia, and collected ethnographic material. He published articles on the archeological treasures of Kherson gubernia (1893), Chersonese Taurica (1883), and the kurhans in Smila, and two collections—Malorusskiia prozvishcha Khersonskoi gubernii (Little Russian Surnames of Kherson Gubernia, 1893) and Materialy po etnografii Novorossiiskogo kraia (Materials in the Ethnography of New Russia Region, 1894).
