Zavadovsky

Zavadovsky [Завадовський; Zavadovs’kyj]. A family line of Ukrainian nobility and Cossack starshyna from the Chernihiv region. Yakiv Zavadovsky was a member of Ivan Samoilovych's court and a judge (1703–5) and acting colonel (1693, 1703–4) in Starodub regiment. His son, Vasyl, and his grandson, Vasyl, took part in the Polish and Turkish campaigns of the 1730s and were fellows of the standard; the latter Vasyl's sons became counts. One of them, Petro Zavadovsky, was a noted imperial Russian government official; another, Yakiv Zavadovsky, was the last colonel of Starodub regiment (1778–82) and governor of Novhorod-Siverskyi (1794).
