Dombchevsky, Roman [Домбчевський, Роман; Dombčevs'kyj], b 25 May 1884 in the village of Yaseniv Horishnii, Kosiv county, Galicia, d 1952 in Odesa. Galician civil leader, lawyer, publicist, active member of the Ukrainian Social Democratic party. During the First World War he served in the Ukrainian Galician Army and was later active in the Union for the Liberation of Ukraine (in the prisoner of war camps of Knittelfeld and Freistadt) and in 1918–22 was a member of the diplomatic mission of the Ukrainian National Republic in Prague. He worked as a lawyer in Mykolaiv (Lviv region) and in Stryi. He wrote Za prava ukraïns'koï movy (In Defense of the Rights of the Ukrainian Language, 1936). He was arrested by the Soviets in September 1939 and sentenced in April 1940 in Odesa to eight years in labor camps.
