Kobyliansky, Antin [Кобилянський, Антін; Kobyljans'kyj], b 29 January 1837 in Pererisl, Nadvirna county, Galicia, d 8 February 1910 in Lviv. A civic figure, physician, and inventor. In 1861 in his article ‘Slovo na Slovo do Redaktora Slova’ (A Word on the Word to the Editor of Slovo) and brochure Holos na holos dlia Halychyny (A Voice on the Voice for Galicia, 1861) he protested against Bohdan Didytsky’s Russification of the Ukrainian language. Kobyliansky also urged Yurii Fedkovych to write in Ukrainian instead of German.
