Lytvynenko, Valentyn [Литвиненко, Валентин], b 28 August 1908 in Kremenchuk, Poltava gubernia, d 15 December 1979 in Kyiv. Graphic artist. He studied under Mykola Samokysh in Simferopol and at the workers' faculty of the Kharkiv Art Institute (1932–4). From 1941 he worked as a caricaturist for the satirical journal Perets’ and designed Soviet political posters and leaflets; lubok pictures; linocuts, such as The Jury (1945), Hunting Lyrics (1951), Hunting Jokes (1961), and Spring Silence (1959); and linocut illustrations for books, including editions of fairy tales by Leonid Hlibov (1946), Lesia Ukrainka (1962), and Ivan Franko (1966), Ostap Vyshnia’s short stories (1954), and Ukrainian folk tales (1968).
