Omelchenko, Fedir [Омельченко, Федір; Omel'čenko], b 21 February 1865 in Krolevets, Chernihiv gubernia, d 4 February 1924 in Kyiv. Pathomorphologist and microbiologist; full member of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences from 1921. A graduate in medicine from Kyiv University (1890), he was an army doctor and taught pathological anatomy and bacteriology in Kyiv, Warsaw, and Saint Petersburg. He donated his laboratory to the Ukrainian Scientific Society and helped establish the Institute of Biology of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, where he served as director in 1921–2. He was also a professor and rector of the Kyiv Veterinary Institute (from 1922). Omelchenko researched spermatogenesis, cytology, and the anthropological characteristics of Ukrainians (see Physical anthropology).
