Petrovsky, Oleksander [Петровський, Олександер; Petrovs'kyj], b 12 September 1908 in Katerynoslav, Katerynoslav gubernia, d 21 October 1983 in Kyiv. Conductor and educator. In 1941 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory and in 1951 completed his graduate studies at the Kyiv Conservatory. He served as artistic director and conductor of the All-Union Radio Committee choir (1938–4), artistic director of the DUMKA Chorus (1944–6), chief choirmaster and conductor of the opera studio of the Kyiv Conservatory (1947–57), and chief conductor of the Kyiv Theater of Opera and Ballet (1952–4). He lectured at the Kyiv Pedagogical Institute from 1956. His works include a monograph on the Bilshovyk Plant kapelle (1956) and several collections, among them Khrestomatiia z khorovoho dyryhuvannia (The Choir Conducting Anthology, 1973).
