Tovstolis, Mykola [Товстоліс, Микола], 21 March 1872 in Andronyky, Sosnytsia county, Chernihiv gubernia, d 16 June 1938 in Kyiv. Lawyer and political figure; member of the Imperial Senate before the Revolution of 1917 and of the Ukrainian State Senate (1918) during the rule of Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky. In the 1920s he was a professor at the Kyiv Institute of the National Economy and a research associate of the Commission for the Study of Ukraine's Customary Law at the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. A number of his works were published in the commission’s Pratsi, including articles on discovery under Lithuanian-Ruthenian law (1926) and on the history of customary law (1928). He was arrested in 1933, during the Stalinist terror, and later executed.
