Ukrainian Research and Information Institute (Український публіцистично-науковий інститут; Ukrainskyi publitsystychno-naukovyi instytut, or УПНІ; UPNI). An information organization founded in the United States of America on the initiative of Mykola Shlemkevych in 1961 to inform the Ukrainian and the general public about current Ukrainian issues and to correct misinformation about Ukraine and Ukrainians. The first branch of the institute was formed in Chicago, where its head office, under Toma Lapychak, was set up. Ten other branches were organized, in cities such as New York, Detroit, Newark, Trenton, and Winnipeg. It also had individual members in Europe and Australia. Its main publications were in English and included Solomon Goldelman’s Jewish National Autonomy in Ukraine, 1917–1920 (1968). It also published a series of brochures in Ukrainian and English. In 1976 the institute was dissolved.
