Veselovsky, Nikolai [Веселовский, Николай; Veselovskij, Nikolaj], b November 1848 in Moscow, d 12 April 1918 in Saint Petersburg. Russian archeologist. He graduated from Saint Petersburg University (1873) and taught there from 1890. Although a specialist in Oriental studies, he made some valuable archeological finds in southern Ukraine, particularly the Solokha kurhan and Kamiana Mohyla. He posited that the numerous stone baby in the region were Turkic in origin.
