Zablotsky-Desiatovsky, Pavlo [Заблоцький-Десятовський, Павло; Zabloc'kyj-Desjatovs'kyj], b 15 July 1814 in Chernihiv gubernia, d 14 July 1882 in Krymky, Zvenyhorodka county, Kyiv gubernia. Physician; full member of the Russian Imperial Academy of Sciences. A graduate of Moscow University (1835), he was an adjunct professor of surgery (1842–6) and a professor of forensic medicine (1846–69) at the Saint Petersburg Medico-Surgical Academy and served as court physician (1843–9). In 1847 he was the first to use chloroform as an anesthetic in the Russian Empire. The founding president of the Russian Surgeons’ Society (1882), he wrote scientific works on surgery and venereology, including Rukovodstvo k izucheniiu i lecheniiu sifiliticheskikh boleznei (A Guide to the Study and Treatment of Syphilitic Diseases, 1857).
