Konstantynovych, Yaroslav

Konstantynovych, Yaroslav or Konstantynowicz, Jarosław [Константинович, Ярослав; Konstantynovyč, Jaroslav], b 13 March 1893 in Torky, Peremyshl county, Galicia, d 1972 in Żelechów, Warsaw voivodeship, Poland. Art historian, critic, and educator. Completing his higher education in Munich, Vienna, and Lviv, he studied religious art in Galicia, Austria, Yugoslavia, and Italy. His works include Wychowanie estetyczne w nowoczesnej szkole (Esthetic Education in the Modern School, 1936), Ikonostasis: Studien und Forschungen (1939), and ‘Prychynky do studiï ukraïns'koï ikony XIV–XVI st.’ (Materials for the Study of Ukrainian Icons of the 14th–16th Centuries, Bohosloviia, vol 42 [1978]). He left unpublished manuscripts on Ukrainian iconostases of the 14th–16th centuries in Poland and 17th-century iconostases in Lviv eparchy, Peremyshl eparchy, Belz eparchy, and Kholm eparchy. He also photographed and described the abandoned churches in the Lemko region.
