Metropolitan Ilarion Theological Society (Богословське товариство ім. Митрополита Іларіона; Bohoslovske tovarystvo im. Mytropolyta Ilariona). A Ukrainian theological society based at Saint Andrew's College in Winnipeg. Established as the Scholarly Theological Society in 1948, the society initially included such churchmen and scholars as Archbishop Mstyslav Skrypnyk, Semen Sawchuk, Dmytro Doroshenko, and Ivan Vlasovsky. In 1954 Metropolitan Ivan Ohiienko assumed leadership of the society and renamed it the Ukrainian Scholarly Theological Society. Under Ohiienko’s direction the society published a regular journal, Vira i kul’tura, and a number of books on theology and history of the Ukrainian church, primarily by Ohiienko. After a period of inactivity, the society was revived in 1972, after Ohiienko’s death, and renamed in his honor. After that Vira i kul’tura was also revived as an annual publication.
