Parkhomenko, Mykola

Parkhomenko, Mykola [Пархоменко, Микола; Parxomenko], b 23 July 1902 in Karavan, Katerynoslav gubernia, d 3 June 1964 in Elista, Kalmyk Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, RSFSR. Composer, violinist, and pedagogue. After graduating from the Rostov-na-Donu Conservatory (1924) he taught in a variety of music schools, including the Lviv Conservatory (1946–9). Among his works are the children's operettas Tale about the Fisherman and the Fish (1936) and Alladin’s Lamp (1941), the ballet Scheherezade (1925), four symphonies (1930, 1933, 1943, 1947), short violin pieces, and art songs.
