Truba, Ivan [Труба, Іван], b 28 September 1878 in Homel, Mahiliou gubernia, Belarus, d 27 August 1950 in Plzeň, Czechoslovakia. Engineer and civic activist. As a student at the Saint Petersburg Technological Institute he was active in the Ukrainian Student Hromada in Saint Petersburg, and in 1902 he was exiled to Irkutsk for his role in student demonstrations. During the Revolution of 1905 he was imprisoned again for revolutionary activity. From 1909 he worked as an engineer in Katerynoslav and took part in the Ukrainian national movement. Appointed gubernial commissioner for education in 1917, he Ukrainized the school system, compiled anthologies for students, and organized Prosvita reading rooms. Later he emigrated to Czechoslovakia, where he lectured on mechanical engineering at the Ukrainian Husbandry Academy.
