Wiwchar, Michael [Vivčar, Myxajlo] (Vivchar, Mykhailo), b 9 May 1932 in Komarno, Manitoba. (Photo: Michael Wiwchar.) Ukrainian Catholic bishop. He started his novitiate with the Redemporist Fathers in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and then continued his education at Saint Paul College in Winnipeg and Saint Paul University in Ottawa. He was ordained in 1959, subsequently spending many years (1959–81) in Roblin, Manitoba as a teacher at Saint Vladimir’s College and a pastor. He spent several years serving parishes in Winnipeg (1981–3), Newark, New Jersey (1984–8), and Saskatoon (1988-90) before being assigned in 1990 to a parish in New York. In 1993 he was ordained a bishop and appointed to head the Chicago eparchy. He served as bishop of Saskatoon eparchy from November 2000 to May 2008. He concurrently held the position of apostolic administrator for the Chicago eparchy from December 2000 to March 2003.
