Zhukovsky, Herman [Жуковський, Герман; Žukovs'kyj], b 13 November 1913 in Radziviliv (now Radyvyliv), Dubno county, Volhynia oblast, d 15 March 1976 in Kyiv. Composer and pedagogue. He graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory (1941) in the composition class of Lev Revutsky and later (1951–8) taught music theory at the same institution. His works include the operas Maryna (1939), From a Sincere Heart (1951), and First Spring (1959); the ballets Rostyslava (1955), The Forest Song (1961), and The Maiden and Death (1971); and symphonic suites, cantatas, chamber music, choral music, art songs, arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs, and film scores.
