Central State Scientific-Technical Archive

Central State Scientific-Technical Archive (Центральний державний науково-технічний архів України or ЦДНТА; Tsentralnyi derzhavnyi naukovo-tekhnichnyi arkhiv Ukrainy, or TsDNTA). The central state repository for specialized documentation regarding scientific and technological development in Ukraine as well as major construction projects. It is located in Kharkiv (in the building which formerly housed the Central State Archive of the October Revolution) and operates under the aegis of the State Committee on Archives of Ukraine. TsDNTA was established in 1969 as the Central State Archive of Scientific-Technical Documentation. It was the republican counterpart to an all-Union scientific-technical archive which had been created in Kuibyshev (now Samara) in 1967. It acquired its present name in 1992.

The archive houses “complexes” of documents which require special handling, notably the plans for major construction projects (eg, the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station and Kremenchuk Hydroelectric Station) and special architectural undertakings (eg, the Ukraina cinema theater in Kharkiv). These are deposited by state scientific and technical institutions, metallurgical enterprises, construction planners, and the like. It presently has approx 850 of these complexes with some 500,000 storage units.
