Curator

Curator (kurator). Person appointed as a guardian of a certain field of activity. In tsarist Russia and in Poland superintendents of school districts were known as curators. In tsarist-ruled Ukraine there were three such districts—the Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa districts—each encompassing more than one gubernia. In the 1920s and 1930s Western Ukraine under Poland had two school districts—Lviv and Volhynia.
