Haievsky, Valentyn

Haievsky, Valentyn [Гаєвський, Валентин; Hajevs'kyj; pseudonyms: Vasyl Halaida, V. Hlushko, V. Horenko, Tahorenko], b 29 July 1902 in Kyiv. Specialist in the history of Ukrainian theater, drama critic, pedagogue; son of Hryhorii Haievsky. A graduate of Kyiv University (1935) and the Kyiv Institute of Theater Arts (1940), he lectured at the latter (1938–43). During the Second World War he emigrated to Germany and in 1950 settled in the United States of America. His publications include studies of Taras Shevchenko’s association with Mikhail Shchepkin (1939), Panas Saksahansky as stage director (1939), the actor Hnat Yura (1940), and sketches on modern Ukrainian theater (1940), as well as over 80 articles and reviews.
