Kakhnykevych, Kyrylo

Kakhnykevych, Kyrylo [Кахникевич, Кирило; Kaxnykevyč], b 1850 in Kolomyia, Galicia, d 27 May 1926 in Lviv. Journalist and civic figure. A graduate of the University of Vienna (1876) and the Vienna Higher School of Agriculture, he taught school and then worked on the editorial staff of Dilo (1884–90). For many years he was the editor of Narodna chasopys’ (1891–1914, 1918), the Ukrainian supplement to the government daily Gazeta Lwowska. A member of the board of directors of Silskyi Hospodar, he edited its semimonthly Hospodars’ka chasopys’ (1910–18) and its book series Hospodarska Biblioteka (Farming Library). At the same time he translated literary pieces from various European languages for Hospodars’ka chasopys’ and wrote popular booklets on farming, which were published by the Prosvita society and Silskyi Hospodar.
