Kulzhenko, Vasyl

Kulzhenko, Vasyl [Кульженко, Василь; Kul'ženko, Vasyl'], b 11 February 1865 in Kyiv, d 7 September 1934 in Kyiv. Publisher and printer. He studied at the Leipzig Polygraphic Academy before taking over control of his father’s printing company in Kyiv. In 1903 he established and began lecturing at the Kyiv Graphic Arts and Printing School and from 1908 to 1914 he published the journal Iskusstvo i pechatnoe delo (later renamed Iskusstvo v Iuzhnoi Rossii). From 1924 to 1928 he lectured at the Kyiv Art Institute. Kulzhenko’s firm printed the currency, official documents, and postage stamps issued by the Ukrainian National Republic and Hetman government between 1917 and 1919.
