Lesiv, Mykhailo

Lesiv, Mykhailo or Łesiów, Michał [Лесів, Михайло], b 3 May 1928 in Stara Huta, Buchach county, Galicia, d 15 July 2016 in Olsztyn, Poland. Slavist and educator. A graduate of the Catholic University of Lublin and Warsaw University (PH D, 1962), from 1956 he taught at Lublin University. His publications include articles on the language of 17th-century Ukrainian drama and poetry, Ukrainian-Polish linguistic relations, and the Ukrainian dialects of the Kholm region and Podlachia (see Podlachian dialects). He wrote a monograph on the toponymy of the Lublin region (1972) and on pronouns in the literary Ukrainian language of the 17th and 18th centuries (1977).
