Maksymovych, Ivan

Maksymovych, Ivan [Максимович, Іван; Maksymovyč], b 1679 in Pyriatyn, Lubny regiment, d 3 March 1745 in Kyiv. Monk and church painter. He was in charge of the icon painting studios at the Zolotonosha monastery, Mhar Transfiguration Monastery, Pereiaslav monastery, and of the Kyivan Cave Monastery Icon Painting and Art Studio (1718–45). His mural paintings in these monasteries have not survived (they are known only from archival sources), and his most famous works, in the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyivan Cave Monastery, were destroyed in the 19th century.
