Miakotin, Venedikt

Miakotin, Venedikt [Мякотин, Венедикт; Mjakotin], b 24 March 1867 in Gatchina, Saint Petersburg county, d 5 October 1937 in Prague. Russian historian and political activist. He graduated from Saint Petersburg University (1891), taught in Kyiv (1891–1901), studied the social and economic history of the Hetman state under the guidance of Ivan Luchytsky, and worked for the journal Kievskaia starina. In 1918, after returning to Saint Petersburg, he emigrated and became a professor at Sofia University in Bulgaria. His historical writings included Ocherki sotsial'noi istorii Ukrainy v XVII–XVIII vv. (Studies of the Social History of Ukraine during the 17th–18th Centuries, 3 vols, 1924–6).
