Miliaieva, Liudmyla

Miliaieva, Liudmyla [Міляєва, Людмила; Miljajeva, Ljudmyla], b 13 November 1925 in Kharkiv, 29 October 2022 in Kyiv. Art historian. A graduate of Kyiv University (1950), after 1962 she lectured at the Kyiv State Art Institute; from 1990 she worked there as professor of history and theory of art. She also worked in (1949–62) and headed the department of pre-1917 art (1964–66) at the Kyiv Museum of Ukrainian Art. Miliaieva wrote articles on Ukrainian art history, chapters to collective works on the history of Ukrainian art, and several books, including monographs on Kostiantyn Trutovsky (1955), on the murals of Potelych Church of the Holy Ghost (1969), on the 14th- to 17th-century Ukrainian art (1963, with Hryhorii Lohvyn), on the medieval Ukrainian painting (1976, with Lohvyn and Vira Svientsitska), and on the 11th- to 18th-century Ukrainian icon (2007, with Mariia Helytovych). Miliaieva authenticated and dated several historic Ukrainian icons, including the Mother of God the Protectress from Galicia (late 12th–early 13th century) and the Mother of God Hodegetria from Lutsk (late 13th–early 14th century).
