Nedilsky, Sofron

Nedilsky, Sofron [Недільський, Софрон; Nedil's'kyj], b 10 January 1857 in Tsutsyliv, Galicia, d 8 August 1917 in Bielsko-Biała, Poland. Galician lexicographer and educator. While teaching at the Ukrainian gymnasium in Stanyslaviv, he helped found the Ruska Besida in Galicia and completed vol 2 of Yevhen Zhelekhivsky’s Ukrainian-German dictionary (1886). Later he was the first principal of the Ukrainian gymnasium in Kolomyia (1894–1914). In 1914 he became a representative on the Provincial School Union and was evacuated to Poland.
