Nicephorus, Metropolitan

Nicephorus, Metropolitan (Nykyfor), b ?, d 1121 in Kyiv. Metropolitan of Kyiv in 1104–21. A Greek by origin, he was assigned to Kyiv metropoly from Constantinople in 1104. He is best known for his writings, including epistles to Volodymyr Monomakh and the Volhynian prince Yaroslav Sviatopolkovych, a sermon on fasting, and a letter to Volodymyr Monomakh on morality. All were originally written in Greek and later translated into Church Slavonic.
