Popovych, Volodymyr

Popovych, Volodymyr [Попович, Володимир; Popovyč], b 7 December 1922 in Vilshany, Peremyshl county, Galicia. Doctor and community leader in Belgium. He studied at Lviv University (1942–4) and Leuven University (1945–50). In 1951–86 he headed the Ukrainian Relief Committee in Belgium (UDK) and edited its Visti (1972–89). A collector of Ukrainian art, he is also author of the catalogue Sofiia Zarytska (1967), Mykhailo Andriienko (on Mykhailo Andriienko-Nechytailo, 1969), Gregor Kruk - Plastik (Hryhorii Kruk: Sculptor, 1969), Mariia Dol'nyts'ka (1978), and with Sviatoslav Hordynsky, Halyna Mazepa (1982); and of articles about Ukrainian artists in journals such as Notatky z mystetstva/Ukrainian Art Digest, Suchasnist’, and Avangard.
