Ryzhevsky, Vasyl

Ryzhevsky, Vasyl [Рижевський, Василь; Ryževs'kyj, Vasyl'], b 16 March 1886 in Strusiv, Terebovlia county, Galicia, d 4 March 1965 in Miami, Florida. Civil engineer, surveyor, and entrepreneur. During the struggle for independence (1917–20) he was a captain and technical specialist in the General Staff of the Ukrainian Galician Army. He was one of the pioneers of the budding Ukrainian industry in Galicia between the two world wars, and owned a construction company and co-owned a road construction company and cardboard factory in Lviv. He belonged to the Union of Ukrainian Merchants and Entrepreneurs. He was also the founding president of the Ukrainian Technical Society in Lviv and an honorary member of the Ukrainian Engineers’ Society of America. He lived in the United States of America from 1950.
