Samokhvalenko, Yevhen

Samokhvalenko, Yevhen [Самохваленко, Євген; Samoxvalenko, Jevhen], b 9 April 1917 in the Kholm region, d 30 November 1984 in Dobrzyń, Poland. Ukrainian writer and community figure in postwar Poland. A pharmacist by occupation, he was a founding member of the literary and artistic association within the Ukrainian Social and Cultural Society in Poland, edited the literary-cultural supplement to the weekly Nashe slovo (Warsaw), and was politically active in Dobrzyń. He published hundreds of poems and articles in the Ukrainian and Polish press and wrote the poetry collections Nad Visloiu (At the Vistula, 1974) and Paraleli (Parallels, 1979).
