Savchak, Volodymyr [Савчак, Володимир; Savčak], b 25 May 1911 in Berezhany, Galicia, d 6 March 2007 in Australia. Painter. In the late 1930s he studied at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. A postwar displaced person, from 1948 he lived in Australia, where he worked as an art teacher. He painted portraits of Ukrainian historical figures, Australian landscapes (eg, Morning in Brisbane), and icons. Ten solo shows of his work have been held in Australia, and several in North America.
