Sawchuk, Terry

Sawchuk, Terry (Terrance; Савчук, Тарас), b 28 December 1929 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, d 31 May 1970 in New York, New York State, USA. Professional hockey player. As a goaltender in 21 seasons, he recorded a goals-against-average of 2.52 with 103 regular-season and 12 play-off shutouts. He won the Calder Trophy as the National Hockey League (NHL) rookie of the year (1950–1) and the Vezina Trophy as the best goaltender in 1951–2, 1952–3, 1954–5, and 1964–5 (shared). He was a member of four Stanley Cup winners as a player with the Detroit Red Wings (1952, 1954, 1955) and Toronto Maple Leafs (1967). He was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 1971.
