Serbyniuk, Yurii

Serbyniuk, Yurii [Сербинюк, Юрій; Serbynjuk, Jurij], b 1887 in Sadhora (now part of Chernivtsi), Bukovyna, d ? in Rоmania. Political and community activist and journalist. He worked for the Government-in-exile of the Ukrainian National Republic in Vienna (1920–1) and served as general secretary of the Ukrainian National party in Rоmania (1927–38) and as a member of the Rоmanian №parliament (1932–3). He edited a number of newspapers in Chernivtsi, including Hromadianyn (1909), Narodnyi holos (1911–15), Nova Bukovyna (1914 and 1918), Chas (Chernivtsi) (1929–32), Narodnia syla (1932–4), and Rada (Chernivtsi) (1934–8). He contributed to the entry on Bukovyna in Ukraïns'ka zahal'na entsyklopediia (Ukrainian General Encyclopedia, vol 3, 1935). He emigrated from Chernivtsi to Romania in 1940. He was imprisoned in the Soviet Union in 1945–54, and then returned to Romania.
