Serpilin, Leonid

Serpilin, Leonid [Серпілін, Леонід], b 4 April 1912 in Kyiv, d 27 February 1973 in Kyiv. Writer and journalist. He completed studies at the Kyiv Civil-Engineering Institute in 1937. During the Second World War he was a correspondent for the daily Radians’ka Ukraïna and then became editor of Literaturna Ukraïna. He is the author of collections of short stories, such as Shliakh druzhby (The Path of Friendship, 1949) and Ser'ozhchyna radist' (Serozha’s Joy, 1958); novels, such as Svitanok (Dawn, 1947), Kliatva nad bahattiam (Oath by the Bonfire, 1951), Zolota osin' (Golden Autumn, 1960), and Vohnyk na uzlissi (The Little Fire at the Edge of the Forest, 1967); and the romance novel Budivnychi (The Builders, 1955).
