Shchutska, Marusia

Shchutska, Marusia or Szczucka, Maria [Щуцька, Маруся; Ščuc’ka, Marusja], b 27 March 1941 in Vereshyna, Hrubeshiv county, Kholm region (now in Poland). Opera singer (soprano). After graduating from the Higher Music School in Łódź in 1970, she sang with the Polish National Philharmonic Orchestra in Warsaw and toured Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Italy, Yugoslavia, and Hungary with the Capella Bydgostiensis. In 1972 she joined the Łódź Opera as a soloist and appeared in roles such as Papagena in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Olympia in Johann Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann, the Priestess in Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida, and Eurydice in Claudio Monteverdi’s The Legend of Orpheus.
