Vintskovsky, Dmytro

Vintskovsky, Dmytro [Вінцковський, Дмитро; Vinckovs'kyj; pseudonyms: D(imitrii) or D(mytro) iz O(stry), D(mytro) iz nad D(nestra)], b 15 November 1846 in Ostra, Bukovyna, d 25 October 1917 in Kyiv. Writer. He published his first story in Nedilia (Lviv) in 1865 while still a student at the Drohobych gymnasium. He worked as a teacher in Suceava (1873–4), Chernivtsi (1875–7), and Lviv (1877–83) and from 1884 as a bank clerk in Lviv. His popular articles and pedestrian poems and stories appeared in various Russophile periodicals, including those of the Kachkovsky Society and the Stauropegion Institute. The Kachkovsky Society published his educational brochures for the peasantry in the 1880s.
