Vretsona, Hryhorii

Vretsona, Hryhorii [Врецьона, Григорій; Vrec'ona, Hryhorij], b 8 October 1839 in Vynnyky, Lviv county, Galicia, d 2 November 1901 in Lviv. Pedagogue and education activist. He taught in Galician village schools (1862–77) until moving to Lviv, where he was a teacher from 1877. He was active in Ukrainian community affairs in Lviv and was a member of many organizations, including Prosvita, Narodna Torhovlia, Tsentrobank, and the Shevchenko Scientific Society. He wrote extensively for Galician newspapers and journals, and edited and published Shkol’na chasopys’ in 1880–9.
