Yemets, Fedir

Yemets, Fedir [Ємець, Федір; Jemec'], b 1894 in Zhaborivka, Bohodukhiv county, Kharkiv gubernia, d 1977? in Caracas, Venezuela. Sculptor; brother of Vasyl Yemets. An interwar émigré, he graduated from the Berlin Academy of Arts in 1929 and served as an assistant and then a professor there. A postwar refugee and displaced person in Austria, he taught sculpture in a private school in Salzburg between 1947 and 1949. In 1950 he emigrated to Venezuela. He worked in various media, particularly bronze. He created busts (eg, of Hryhorii Skovoroda) and large sculptures, such as Dying Otaman, Dance, Bath, Sleeping Lion, and Mother, in a classical-realist style.
