Zeleny, Andrii

Zeleny, Andrii [Зелений, Андрій; Zelenyj, Andrij], b 1882 in Kamianka Voloska, Rava-Ruska county, Galicia, d 28 August 1937 in Lviv. Pedagogue and education activist. Upon graduation from teachers' seminary in Lviv, he taught in a number of village schools, where he actively promoted organizations such as the Prosvita society and Silskyi Hospodar. During the First World War he worked as a mobilization commissioner, and during the struggle for independence (1917–20) he was a school inspector for the Lviv school district. In 1921 he became director of the Ukrainian Teachers' Mutual Aid Society. He was also active in the Ridna Shkola society as an associate editor of the publications Uchytel’, Uchytel’s’ke slovo, and Shliakh vykhovannia i navchannia. He was a prominent member of the Ukrainian National Democratic Alliance.
